UN/EDIFACT D94B SLSFCT Message

Review the SLSFCT segment sequence, mandatory fields, repeat counts and valid codes for the D94B EDIFACT directory.

What the SLSFCT message is for

Sales Forecast Report Message. A buyer's forecast of expected sales by product and location, shared so suppliers can plan ahead.

SLSFCT shares demand expectations across the trading relationship. A retailer sends forward-looking sales estimates by product and, usually, by location, so a supplier can plan production and raw materials against expected demand rather than against orders that have not been placed yet. It is central to collaborative planning arrangements, and it is explicitly not a commitment: the figures are the buyer's best current estimate, and the value comes from sharing them early enough to be useful.

Who exchanges it

Sent by retailers, distributors and category planners, received by suppliers and manufacturers. Read alongside SLSRPT, which reports actual sales, and INVRPT, which reports stock. Together they drive replenishment resulting in ORDERS.

Segments that carry the parts people get wrong

  • BGMForecast identifier and function.
  • DTMThe periods being forecast, and when the forecast was produced.
  • LOCThe location the forecast applies to.
  • LINThe product being forecast.
  • QTYForecast quantity per period.

In practice: Forecasts are superseded frequently, so the generation date in DTM matters as much as the quantities. Applying an older forecast over a newer one is a common integration fault and is invisible until the plan is wrong.
