UN/EDIFACT D98B SLSRPT Message
Review the SLSRPT segment sequence, mandatory fields, repeat counts and valid codes for the D98B EDIFACT directory.
What the SLSRPT message is for
Sales Data Report Message. Reports actual sales by product and location, usually from point-of-sale data.
SLSRPT gives a supplier visibility of sell-through rather than just sell-in. Knowing what a retailer bought tells you what was shipped; knowing what consumers actually purchased tells you what is happening in the market, which is what replenishment and promotional analysis need. It is the demand signal in vendor managed inventory arrangements, and combined with INVRPT it lets a supplier calculate cover at store or depot level and propose replenishment without waiting for an order.
Who exchanges it
Sent by retailers and distributors, received by suppliers, brand owners and category managers. Paired with INVRPT for stock positions and SLSFCT for forward estimates. Drives replenishment issued as ORDERS.
Segments that carry the parts people get wrong
BGMReport identifier and function.DTMThe period the sales data covers.LOCThe store or depot the figures relate to.LINThe product sold.QTYQuantity sold in the period.MOAValue of sales, where reported.
In practice: Confirm whether the figures are cumulative or per period before building anything on them. Both conventions are in use, and mistaking one for the other produces replenishment proposals that are wrong by an order of magnitude.
