UN/EDIFACT D96A INVRPT Message
Review the INVRPT segment sequence, mandatory fields, repeat counts and valid codes for the D96A EDIFACT directory.
What the INVRPT message is for
Inventory Report Message. Reports stock on hand at one or more locations, so a trading partner can plan replenishment against real figures.
INVRPT makes inventory visible across a company boundary. A distributor or retailer sends stock positions to a supplier, or a third-party warehouse reports to its client. That visibility is the precondition for vendor managed inventory: if the supplier can see stock levels and movement, they can propose replenishment themselves rather than waiting for a purchase order. It is also used for consignment stock, where ownership does not transfer until goods are consumed and someone must track what is sitting where.
Who exchanges it
Sent by retailers, distributors and third-party warehouses, received by suppliers, brand owners and planning systems. Feeds replenishment decisions that result in ORDERS, and is often paired with SLSRPT so the supplier sees both stock and sell-through.
Segments that carry the parts people get wrong
BGMReport identifier and function.DTMThe date and time the stock position was taken, which is what makes the figures meaningful.LOCThe location the stock is held at.LINThe item being reported.QTYQuantities by category: on hand, on order, allocated, damaged.INVInventory movement and type details.
In practice: The qualifier on QTY carries the meaning. Treating allocated or damaged stock as available is a common cause of replenishment models proposing orders for stock that cannot actually be sold.
