What is EDI TRADACOMS?

EDI TRADACOMS is one of the most fundamental EDI languages, starting life in 1982.  It was setup by the Article Numbering Association, who later changed their name to GS1.  GS1 may sound familiar, as they are the independent body that issue barcodes to products worldwide.

Where is it used?

EDI TRADACOMS is mainly used in the UK retail sector.  Supermarkets, clothing stores and various other retal outlets still use this format.  Officially, GS1 have been pushing for the format to be abondoned for many years, however, large system impelementations were once a very costly option and the changeover to a more universal EDI format is perceived as an unnecessary cost.
